(McAllen, TX) The City of McAllen hosted a Sister City Official Signing Ceremony with Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico on Friday, February 27, 2009 at McAllen City Hall. A delegation of 35 people arrived from Ciudad Victoria, including City Commission members and Ciudad Victoria Mayor Arturo Diez Gut겲ez Navarro.
“Our cities are coming together to seal the most celebrated association of kinship,” said Mayor Richard F. Cortez, City of McAllen.
More than a hundred citizens, business leaders and elected officials attended the ceremony.
This ceremony marks the 16th sister city agreement that the City of McAllen has signed. The agreement entails that the cities develop an exchange and cooperation on the economy, trade, culture, education and tourism to promote mutual prosperity.
“In today’s times of economic uncertainty, our two cities stand as beacons of hope and prosperity, as well as a source of confidence for the future of our region,” said Mayor Cortez.
The sister city agreement promotes the two communities as a region to build economic development projects. According to economic experts, companies and investors look at regions as a whole.
“The formalization of this sister city agreement is instrumental in enhancing and developing both cities. Starting today, Victoria and McAllen form a professional relationship by exchanging experiences and ideas of common interest,” said Mayor Arturo Diez Guti겲ez Navarro, Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
