Texas Border Business

Diana Cantu to be presented the Estrella Award at Hispanic Women's Network Of Texas 2009 Education and Leadership Training Conference that will take place on Oct. 23-24 2009, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Austin, Texas.

Diana was selected because of her ability to empathize with others, and her desire to help. Diana is a woman that feels the pain and sorrow of those less privileged and always wants to make a difference in their lives by sacrificing her own time, resources, and energy in being present and willing to serve. It comes naturally for her reflecting what HWNT stands for.

Diana has been serving the people of the Rio Grande Valley as a Historian for the Hispanic Women's Network RGV. She is involved in toy drives for children and food drive for the church and other nonprofit organizations. Diana is also a model for fundraising events held by HWNT, always proud of her heritage and culture.

During events such as elections for the organization, Diana helps in the daunting task of calling voters and helping with voter registration.

Diana is also involved in helping the poor and needy by bringing donations to the colonias or poor neighborhoods of the border area.

Diana has served the community as a volunteer in many different capacities for many years, recently the Coat of Colors Organization, which volunteers to visit the sick at hospitals and nursing homes, honored her dedication and commitment with a certificate of appreciation.

Diana was also honored by Mission Regional Medical Center as the Volunteer of the Year, for serving more than 200 volunteer hours alone during the year.

Diana has also been very involved in Youth Leader with her Church and coordinated numerous fundraising activities for the same. Her commitment to education has also brought her to serve the needs of the educational community.

We are honored to have Diana as our Estrella Award Winner for 2009 "said Alida S. Hernandez President of the Hispanic Women's Network RGV, she is an inspirational woman that makes us believe in ourselves and empowers other women to feel proud of their heritage and capacity.

There is not such a word as a "NO" in Diana's vocabulary. She is always ready to step up to the most difficult task and bring the best out of others by her willingness to serve. Diana does the little things, those that many times go unnoticed and unrecognized. Diana does this because of her sincere desire to make things better for everyone.

Currently Diana is enjoying retirement after almost 40 years as a business woman in the retail field. Diana also helps her brother in law in his home heath business as public relations on a part-time basis.
