MCALLEN, TX (March 2, 2010) -- IDEA Public Schools will host two job fairs from 5 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, at the McAllen Convention Center, and Thursday, March 11, at Valley Baptist Missions Education Center in Harlingen. On-site interviews will be available to experienced teachers, grades 6-12, all subjects.

“We have more than 130 positions available—from teachers to school leaders,” said Tom Torkelson, IDEA Public Schools Founder & CEO. “At IDEA Public Schools, we firmly believe that teachers are the backbone of our education system. We know that teachers affect student achievement more than any other in-school factor. We believe great teachers lead by example. They can change a student’s life and, in turn, an entire community.”

IDEA Public Schools offers hiring stipends, achievement bonuses and opportunities for advancement. In addition, IDEA Public Schools offers teachers extensive professional development through IDEA University, district-wide collaboration, and tuition assistance to pay for graduate school.

“We deeply appreciate the efforts our teachers put into the education of the future generations,” Torkelson said. “This is why we offer achievement bonuses and help them pay for their continuing education.

We also provide them with the necessary tools for success--such as their own laptop, cell phone and instructional coach. All of our teachers know we care for them as much as they care for our students. I believe that is what distinguishes us from other school districts. We are a group of leaders who want to transform our students’ lives for the better.”

The McAllen Convention Center is located at 700 Convention Center Blvd. in McAllen, TX, 78501, and the Valley Baptist Missions Education Center is located at 3700 E. Harrison Ave., Harlingen, Texas 78550.  For more information, visit www.ideapublicschools.org.
