The Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mercedes will host its annual Vacation Bible School titled the, High Seas Expedition, a getaway for summer fun and the word of God.

Students from pre-K through the sixth grade can pre-register and attend the Bible expedition scheduled for June 21-June 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Mercedes Immanuel Lutheran Church located at 703 W. 3rd Street.

Immanuel Lutheran Church Pastor Jim Edge said during the week, leaders will guide the children through bible stories, as they travel in a crew to participate in different games, crafts and snacks all to reinforce overall Bible learning and stories about Jesus.

"It's going to be very exciting because it’s our 100 year anniversary as a church and we want to reach out to get 100 kids to participate this year to commemorate our mile stone,” Pastor Edge said. “We’re looking forward for the next 100 years and VBS is a way to reach out in the community to help spread the story of Christ and the teachings of faith.”

In honor of the church's 100 year Anniversary, Immanuel Lutheran Church will work with local business to spread the word to register 100 local children from the Mid Valley Communities for its 2010 Vacation Bible School.

Youth leaders from the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Dallas will be returning for their fifth year in a kids teaching kids effort. Some will be holding double duty as they teach the early groups in Mercedes and then travel to Port Isabel to teach children in the afternoon.

Pastor Ed Weber of Misión Emanuel Lutheran Church of Mercedes will lead in Port Isabel an evening VBS with the youth of Holy Cross extending the reach of the program.

Register your children to jump aboard the High Seas Expedition this summer and explore the mighty word of God.

Please call the church office for further information at (956) 565-1518.
