Mission, Texas – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin construction on two overpasses in Mission on Monday, August 9, 2010. TxDOT will reconstruct an overpass at US 83 and SH 396 (Bryan Road) and construct a new overpass on Bryan Road at Trinity Road in Mission. The project will convert the existing underpass at US 83 and Bryan Road to a new overpass structure similar to Conway and Shary Roads.

"The existing facility at Bryan and US 83 has been in place for over a decade. The opening of the new Anzalduas bridge facility and new development on both sides of the expressway placed a bigger demand on the existing underpass structure.

TxDOT in conjunction with the City of Mission have been monitoring traffic during peak times, due to growing concerns with congestion at this signalized intersection. Once complete, this new project will improve safety, alleviate congestion, facilitate access to Mission Hospital and surrounding businesses and provide easier access to and from the Anzalduas bridge", says Hector Gonzalez, Jr. P.E., TxDOT Pharr Area Engineer.

Ballenger Construction of San Benito was awarded the $23.4 million dollar construction contract in March 2010. The construction project is expected to take 22 months to complete. Crews will begin with the construction of the Bryan Road Overpass at Trinity Road then proceed to the reconstruction of the US 83 /Bryan Road overpass.

In August 2009, additional American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds were made available due to project bid underruns in the TxDOT South Region providing this project with the needed funds to proceed to construction.
