Edinburg --- The University of Texas-Pan American is welcoming prospective students on campus for its “Fall in Love With UTPA” event Feb. 4 to let them decide if they make a good match.
Sponsored by the Division of Enrollment Services, this free event is scheduled from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and will be held at the Wellness and Recreational Sports Complex (WRSC).
“Students will get to see what UTPA has to offer, not only from a student life perspective, but most importantly the academic perspective,” said Aura Cazares, director of undergraduate recruitment for the Office of Outreach and Recruitment.
Cazares said, participants will learn the ins and outs of the University and get the essential building blocks necessary for a successful future.
“This event helps to plant a seed in their heads as to what they should be asking and what correct measures they should be taking when considering any college or university they plan to attend in the fall,” Cazares said.
Students who attend will experience a day filled with activities, food, information sessions, door prizes, entertainment and a chance to meet with current students, professors, and student organizations, Cazares said.
Activities include on-site admissions, a lunch and University fair, academic and mock classroom presentations and scholarship giveaways. Tours will be available throughout the day.
Academic advisers will also be available to answer students’ questions about careers, success and tell students whether they are if they are on the right track for the careers in which they are interested.
“What students and parents can expect from this event is the reassurance that by selecting UTPA, they are choosing a very high-caliber university,” said Cazares. “We want students to know that our college faculty prepare our students for the workforce and that coming here will be a good decision.”
There will also be a bilingual parent panel to answer parents’ questions about safety, funding, success of UTPA graduates and other topics of concern.
The police department, athletics and current students will also be available to answer questions parents and students have about UTPA, Cazares said.
Although the event is free, seats are limited. Reserve a seat by visiting www.utpa.edu/fallinlove and fill out the form. Students need to include their full name, date of birth and high school they are currently attending. Parking for the event will be available in Lot C, located across the campus from the WRSC.

“Our ultimate goal is that students choose our University as their school of choice. By choosing UTPA, they will have made a great decision,” said Cazares.
