Tres Lagos Community to Host New Texas A&M University Campus 

(McAllen, TX.)  Rhodes Enterprises President & CEO, Michael Rhodes, today applauded Texas A&M University’s decision to establish a stand-alone four-year University campus in McAllen, Texas. This past Tuesday, Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp announced at a joint meeting of the McAllen City Council and Hidalgo County Commission that a 100-acre tract of land in the new master-planned community Tres Lagos (treslagosmcallen.com), in northern McAllen, would be the site of the new university campus. Plans call for Texas A&M to be open for classes in McAllen in the fall of 2017.

“Tuesday’s announcement by Chancellor Sharp, along with McAllen Mayor Jim Darling and Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia signaled an unprecedented public-private-City-County partnership; one that will lead to economic development, job creation and excellence in education that this Rio Grande Valley region has never experienced before,” Rhodes stated.

Located at the southwest corner of Ware Road and Monte Cristo, in McAllen, Texas, Tres Lagos offers easy access to both McAllen and Edinburg. This 2,571-acre master-planned community includes single-family homes, multi-family homes, commercial and retail space, health care facilities, schools and churches and now, the just announced new Texas A&M McAllen campus.

Tres Lagos will feature the latest technology and will be the most innovative and secure community in the Rio Grande Valley. Phase One homes at Tres Lagos will be priced from the $180,000’s – $1M. The Tres Lagos community features Include; Fiber-to-Home and bundled technology including Gigabit speed Internet – 300x faster than average high speed Internet. The development will also host community WiFi, alarm monitoring, video surveillance and Smart Home Technology.

Tres Lagos will provide residents with over 20 miles of hike and bike trails, over 200 acres of public parks including pools, sports fields, playgrounds, picnic area, and fishing. The development will also feature over 100 acres of Lakes as well as a community Water Park.

At the press conference, McAllen Mayor Jim Darling noted that the addition of Texas A&M in McAllen will compliment the already growing educational opportunities in the region.

“The establishment of a Texas A&M campus in McAllen will have a major impact on the educational opportunities for our Valley students. Having the two largest Texas university systems here in the Valley is a statement of the recognition of the importance of our area to Texas,” said Mayor Darling. “The establishment and growth of the Texas A&M campus will provide new experiences and choices for students and faculty that can only enhance the exciting new educational events of the past two years for our Valley.”

Education has been a centerpiece in the developments that Rhodes Enterprises have created in the Rio Grande Valley. In the companies earlier developments in Donna, Texas (Alliance River Crossing) and their master-planned community in Mission, Texas (Bentsen Palm Development), and now at Tres Lagos, High performing schools are being developed in all three communities.

“While the amenities we offer at Tres Lagos, as well as at our other developments are unmatched, I really believe that providing those master-planned communities with high performing schools only serves to complete the circle of a full and complete master-planned community,” Rhodes said. He added, “With the addition of Texas A&M now a part of Tres Lagos, we will be able to additionally boast hosting an outstanding University”. Rhodes has served for 10 years as both a Board member and Chairman of the Board of IDEA Public Schools.
